We've introduced geospatial data into our animal standards framework.
In line with the Climate+ directive, Textile Exchange has implemented a Geographical Information System (GIS) for the systematic collection of geospatial and farm-level practice-based data to connect with supply chain data for provenance and proof of impact.
Phase one of this project was rolled out in January 2022 for the Responsible Animal Fiber Standards for producers to report spatial and practice-based data using an online survey or mobile app, and certification bodies to validate the information centrally and submit it to Textile Exchange.
Phase two is currently underway and covers improved features such as farm groups access, bulk upload feature, notifications, historical prefill as well as the expanded scope of the Response Down Standard.
Parallel to this development, the data collected from GIS is also being integrated to our Trackit traceability program to achieve end-to-end supply chain traceability.
BENEFITS
The benefits of using geospatial data include:
-
Improved efficiency of the data collection process
-
Improved data quality and accuracy
-
Better geographical monitoring and evaluation (i.e. identification of locations
and land area risks)
- Facilitate performance and impact monitoring and improvement
- Enable traceability to farms for Textile Exchange's standards and programs.
HOW IT WORKS
Consolidated information will be shared online.
Consolidated farm data will be made available online via dashboards and storymaps.
